Special 2-Day Figure Drawing Workshop April 21-22

A special 2-day workshop with visiting instructor E.M. Gist

Learn about the Reilly Method of figure drawing. A constructive methodology based on a system of rhythms and comparative measurement.  The Reilly Method has it’s basis in the French academic tradition, but is also well suited to more gestural work. 

This workshop is great for anyone looking to take advantage of an instructor with 20 years of experience in teaching art, and life drawing in particular.  Whether you are a novice artist looking to learn more about academic drawing, or an experienced professional who wishes to improve their speed and efficiency, this is a wonderful opportunity.  The approach to figure drawing taught by E. M. Gist has been shown to be very successful in nearly every field of representational art over the last 80 years.

Maybe she's blue, green, or purple. If you're sticking to pencil or charcoal invent some interesting features, tattoos, or other details.

Terry, one of Chicago's premier cosplay stars, will be posing for the workshop in his simple but effective Silver Surfer costume. A costume like this is the best of both worlds, figure drawing and costuming. Plus the added metallic skin. I'm really looking forward to this next workshop.

Intro to Oils for Illustration

A 6-week workshop introducing you to oil painting for illustration.

This is going to be a six week workshop getting you introduced to oil painting. We'll cover painting from life and from reference. We'll explore different surfaces to work on, using references, and the materials used in the studio.

Materials covered will be preparing and using different surfaces, brushes, limited palettes, using references from photos that you will take, composition, lighting, values, finishes, and ways to get your images to your client.

We will also work from models similar to the FIW Workshop at times as well.

February Workshop - Necromancer

The February theme will be a Necromancer. 

Dark and deathly. The feature of the costume will be a beautiful shoulder piece adorned with intricate leaf patterns, jewels, and skulls. The rest of the costume is still TBD. But we've decided on a semi nude pose.

Important:

Any session where the model is nude no photography will be allowed. I will be the official photographer. Jeff Miracola will be the videographer. You can contact me after the event for photos (attendees only). Contact me if you have any questions.

Darth Vader Charity Event

The December theme will be Darth Vader. 

FIW is getting into the Force Awakens mood with this awesome Star Wars themed workshop. We'll have a local member of the 501st as our model. 

The fee for this workshop will be $20 minimum, please give more if you can. All the proceeds are going to charity. We will be donating the money to the model's preferred charity, the Make-A-Wish Foundation. I'll have some light snacks and drinks.
