The January theme will be a Cowboy!

One of our own will be posing for us in his gunslinger gear. Celebrate the New Year and draw or paint Greg Riley. We'll be putting the music in his hands. I hope we hear plenty of Ennio Morricone!

April Workshop - Nick Fury

This month's theme will be Nick Fury!

C2E2 will be coming around in April. We'll celebrate comics with the Avengers leader.

What I'm hoping you will focus on at the workshop is black. Black on black clothing specifically. Should be interesting.

We'll revisit the Deja Thoris theme when the model can work with a date with the workshop.

Bring your friends!

July Session of Figurative Illustration Workshop

Save the date! July 22, 2011. The next Figurative Illustration Workshop will be on a Friday night, the 22nd of July. The session will begin at 6:00 pm and run until 9:30 pm. There is plenty of parking at the Platform Studios building and fairly easy to get to by public transportation.

This month I want to focus on the super-heroine. July is also a hot month and I don't want our model fainting on the platform. We do want her to keep working for us.

This workshop will give those artsits an idea of how some comic book artists gather their reference. Working with a model gives them the opportunity to see the form under different lighting conditions and see the model and costume at different angles.

Costume shops have such a wide array of costumes that almost any subject could be helped out with a bit of reference.

Again, the next workshop info is as follows:

Friday
July 22
6:00 pm - 9:30 pm

Suite 304 (third floor)

First Session starting soon

Coming soon to Chicago's Platform Studios is the Figurative Illustration Workshop with Aaron Miller. Saturday, June 4, 2011 the first of once monthly sessions will begin.

Based on the figure drawing sessions most artists are familiar with, the Figurative Illustration Workshop will take those sessions to the next level. Artists and illustrators will have opportunity to work from a costumed model and other props, giving artists and illustrators the benefits of using reference for a project.

The focus of these workshops is to give artists and illustrators a chance to develop a working process they can develop with models and reference. At the end of the session there will be an opportunity for reference photos and possibly pose requests for the model. The studies from the session can be helpful if an artist wants to continue that months theme for a portfolio project.

More details can be found in the "information" section. Please check back or contact me for more information.

Our first model is confirmed:

We'll be drawing and painting an astronaut!
