Spearwomen of November

This month's session will take place on November 18.
I wanted to play up the work of a friend, Felipe Echevarria, and his sketchbook of Spearwomen. I think it will be a fun subject to tackle and I hope you can join me.

October Shedule

slasher victim | EFX Justine Losoya

This October the session will take place on Friday the 21st.
We'll be going back to life drawing for this event, but of course with a twist. I'll be bringing in the undead to model for us. We'll keep the zombie under control at all times, no artists will be eaten alive.


We will have the EFX talents of Justine Losoya and Scott Mitchell working on our zombie. She'll be zombified from head to toe. We plan to have her ready to model within the first half hour of the workshop so you can see a little bit of the process even if it's just the finishing touches.

September Schedule

This September the session will take place on September 30.
Weather permitting for our model I plan on getting a fairly elaborate costume for her to wear. Something that should give us some great fabric practice.

Inspired by Manet

For tonight's workshop we'll have our model in a matador costume. As I was browsing through all my options I saw the matador labels and thought of the painting by Manet. So, if you can make it I think you'll be in for a treat.

FIW on the road!

On Friday the 19th I'll be painting from a live costumed model at the Museumathon event at the Kenosha Public Museum. Part of the event is to celebrate the Fantastic Worlds Exhibit; Masters of Science Fiction and Fantasy Art in which I have a panting on display.

The event is free! I hope you can make it.

The next Figurative Illustration Workshop will be on a Friday night, the 26th of August. The session will begin at 6:00 pm and run until 9:30 pm. There is plenty of parking at the Platform Studios building and fairly easy to get to by public transportation.

July Session of Figurative Illustration Workshop

Save the date! July 22, 2011. The next Figurative Illustration Workshop will be on a Friday night, the 22nd of July. The session will begin at 6:00 pm and run until 9:30 pm. There is plenty of parking at the Platform Studios building and fairly easy to get to by public transportation.

This month I want to focus on the super-heroine. July is also a hot month and I don't want our model fainting on the platform. We do want her to keep working for us.

This workshop will give those artsits an idea of how some comic book artists gather their reference. Working with a model gives them the opportunity to see the form under different lighting conditions and see the model and costume at different angles.

Costume shops have such a wide array of costumes that almost any subject could be helped out with a bit of reference.
